Sanskrit Resources Update
Oct 15th, 2009 by Manuel Batsching
For various reasons this blog was not updated for quite a time now. But almost every week I discover some new and useful things that I could post here. And also time has come to restructure and update the information I already posted. This all is going to happen soon.
For now only the most interesting discoveries of the last monts:
Boethlingk Sanskrit Wörterbuch in kürzerer Fassung. Finally! A searchable database of one of the most useful Sanskrit (-German) dictionaries available. Each entry is linked to the scan of the original page. Many thanks to everybody responsible for this incredible digitalisation work!
Gāndhārī Dictionary Project. The Early Buddhist Manuscripts Project (Washington University) is currently building up a searchable database for some important dictionaries and references for the study of Buddhist texts (in Indian languages). This work seems to be still in progress. Some entries are not available yet. These are the dictionaries, that will be available:
- Database of Gāndhārī Words
- Monier-Williams - Sanskrit-English Dictionary
- Edgerton - Buddhist Hybrid Sanskrit Dictionary
- Oguibénine - Materials for the Lexicography of Buddhist Sanskrit of the Mahāsāṃghika-Lokottaravādins
- Waldschmidt - Sanskrit-Wörterbuch der buddhistischen Texte aus den Turfan-Funden
W. D. Whitney’s Sanskrit Grammar. About 50% of this standart work is at date digitalized for Wiki-Source. Lets hope, enough people continue this task. You know, everybody can join to help.
Tuepflis Global Village. Website of the German indologist Alois Payer. Its loaded with useful information about India and Sanskrit and provides for example:
- An incredible Sanskrit Beginners Course (61 lessons, German).
- Apte’s Student’s Guide to Sanskrit Composition (including the key to all lessons).
Siddham & Ranjana Keyboard. This blog is collecting resources on using the siddhaṃ script with your computer (thanks to Nama for this link).
